None Like Him, Psalm 113
Some of us have believed in a domesticated god who has no right to tell us what to do, who has no right to impose his will upon us, and whose very job is to make us happy rather than to be worshipped in awe and reverence. We want a god who will get with the times, we want a god who will progress with us as it seems that society is progressing. Beyond making us feel generally affirmed and encouraged, the god most of us want, is a god that will just stay out of our business.
Our inability to domesticate the one true God is actually our only hope. God must rule over my life if he is going to rule over my trouble. God must have the right to damn me for my sins if he is going to have the ability to save me from my sins. It is our hope for salvation that God is powerful enough, sovereign enough, to overcome our rebellion. Psalm 113 shows us just how powerful our God and savior is.
"Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!
The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens!
Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high,
who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?"
