Happy Mother’s Day!
Yesterday was a great day of worship and celebration with the people of God at Palmetto Shores Church. We walked through Psalm 125 together and sought to readjust our expectations for life according to God’s word.
The Reformer John Calvin once wrote, “We know that whenever our expectation is frustrated and things do not succeed according to our wishes, our flesh soon harps on this string, God has deceived me.” The temptation when things don’t go our way is to blame God or to think that God is absent. But time and time again the Bible sets our expectations straight showing us that we should not be surprised when life doesn’t go the way we expect.
However, the Bible also shows us the bigger picture of what God is doing in the world and gives us precious promises to cling to along the way so that we don’t lose hope. This is what fills us with contentment and courage: “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore.” Psalm 125:1-2
The Lord Bless You
