Devotion and Prayer- 1:6

“… for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” Psalm 1:6

Devotion:

As humans, the desire to be known and remembered holds significant weight. Achievements such as induction into a hall of fame or the retirement of a jersey number symbolize a special acknowledgment of one’s contributions. Conversely, there are instances when individuals are forgotten or their names are removed due to revelations tarnishing their reputation. In our lives, the preference is clear—we would rather be known and remembered than removed and forgotten.

Psalm 1 concludes by unveiling the ultimate destiny for all human beings. It starkly presents two paths: being known by God or perishing—living forever in fellowship with God or enduring everlasting judgment.

The question then arises: How do we find ourselves on the way of the righteous instead of the way of the wicked? It begins with acknowledging that our own way isn’t working. The next step is opening ourselves up to the word of God. As we do so, we discover that the way of the righteous is not just a set of principles; it’s a person. Jesus Christ identified Himself as the way in John 14:6.

Being transferred onto the way of the righteous comes through faith in Jesus. Once transferred, He initiates a transformation within us according to His way. If we persist in our own way, we face the peril of perishing. However, when transferred onto the way of Jesus, we will be known by God forever.

Prayer:

Lord, the thought of being forgotten by You is terrifying, but the promise of being known by You forever is uplifting. Thank You for clearly revealing what You love and hate. Above all, thank You for sending Jesus to be the way to You.

Help us to love Jesus passionately. Instill in us a genuine desire to reflect Him in all we do. Assist us in fulfilling every resolve to walk according to His way.

We can’t way to spend eternity with You. Fill our hearts with the hope and joy of Your promise. Establish our hearts with the truth that we are known by You. In Jesus’ name, we worship and pray.

Amen.
