Devotion & Prayer- Psalm 2:10

“Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth.” Psalm 2:10

Devotion:

Sometimes in life, we gain wisdom from making mistakes. But sometimes, we gain wisdom from being invited into that wisdom by a kind friend. Psalm 2 has some hard truths for all of us because we often believe we can live without God. However, these hard truths are intended to invite us into a life of wisdom.

If it is true that God has established His Son on the throne (v. 6), and if it is true that God’s Son will dash anyone who opposes Him to pieces like a clay pot smashing on the ground (v. 9), then it would be unwise to live as if these things were not true.

The wisdom of Psalm 2:10 is aimed at kings and rulers, but through them, it is aimed at all of us. Everyone needs a “therefore” moment with Jesus. Everyone needs to reassess life from the reality of Jesus. His exaltation and dominion invite us into wisdom.

Precisely, the wisdom of Psalm 2:10 is a warning. We can’t reject God’s king and expect to make it out alive. We can’t attempt to establish our own kingdoms and not expect to face a traitor’s fate. God is serious, but in His love, He invites us into wisdom. So, therefore, let us be wise.

Prayer:

God, You are the all-wise One. We are so foolish, constantly needing to correct our thinking and circle back on our bad decisions. But You always know best and always do what is best.

Wake us up to the reality of Christ’s kingship. Awaken us to His power and love, and to the reality of His day of wrath. Help us to be wise.

We are thankful for Your warnings. They are hard, but they are filled with love. We need You more than we even know. Help us to live lives that flow from Your truth. In Jesus’ name, we worship and pray.

Amen.
