Devotion & Prayer- Psalm 2:12

“Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.” Psalm 2:12

Devotion:

Psalm 1 introduces the concept of the blessed person, a desire shared by many. Similarly, Psalm 2 concludes by highlighting those who experience blessing. Psalm 2 defines blessing in terms of refuge—a place of safety and comfort. We all seek refuge in various aspects of our lives, whether it’s the literal refuge of our homes or the figurative refuge found in relationships, entertainment, or wealth. Yet, Psalm 2 emphasizes that true blessing comes from seeking refuge in the Son of God.

Jesus, as God’s Son, is the ultimate refuge because He alone can offer eternal safety. What refuge could protect us from death? What refuge could protect us from Satan? What refuge could protected us from God’s just wrath against our sin? While other refuges may provide temporary protection, only Jesus ensures eternal security from every danger, including death, Satan, and God’s righteous judgment against sin. Taking refuge in the Son involves turning to Him, trusting Him, and embracing Him as our King.

Psalm 2:12 presents this act of seeking refuge in Jesus as a simple gesture: kissing Him. In other words, it signifies turning to Him in faith and repentance, choosing to align ourselves with Him rather than becoming His adversaries. We have two options: seek refuge in anything other than Jesus and remain His enemies, or embrace Jesus through faith and repentance, finding ourselves securely sheltered in His eternal refuge.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, we kiss you becuase you are worthy. We kiss you becuase we see our need for you. We kiss you because we long to align our hearts to yours. We kiss you becuase all honor, glory, and devotion belong to you.

Draw us in to your safe refuge. We don’t want to place our trust anywhere else. Y

ou know that we wander and so we pray that you would run after us. Don’t let us stray. Don’t let our wicked hearts keep us from you. Overtake us by your love. Defeat our rebellion by your beauty. Overcome our resistance by your mercy. We love and trust you, but we want to love and trust you more. In Jesus’ name, we worship and pray.

Amen.
