Devotion & Prayer- Psalm 2:8-9

“Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” Psalm 2:8-9

Devotion:

In the history of the world, there have probably been some abundant inheritances passed down from one generation to the next. Even if we haven’t received an inheritance, we can all probably think of some generous gifts we received. However, it is hard to fathom what kind of inheritance God the Father would give to His Son.

When God made the decree with Jesus, Jesus promised to obey the Father in everything asked of Him. And as an inheritance, the Father promised to give Jesus the nations and the entire earth as His possession. We can’t even conceive of a more benevolent gift!

We are all called to submit to King Jesus. If we do, we share in this inheritance with Him. We become His possession and enjoy His possession. But if we continue in rebellion, Jesus will crush us. As surely as Jesus rose from the dead, He will return to usher His people into His inheritance and hold His enemies to account.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, we gratefully acknowledge that we are not our own but belong to You. In You, we find all life, hope, and peace.

Stir our hearts to endure with patience as we set our hope on the future inheritance You have won for us. Eternal life with You will eclipse whatever light and momentary afflictions we experience. But we are weak. We need You to establish us in this hope.

We are counting on Your justice. We are sure that it will come. Help us to trust Your timing, both in receiving our eternal reward and in seeing justice established in this world. Our eyes are on You. In Jesus’ name, we worship and pray.

Amen.
