Jesus Is Better (Pt. 5)

And, ‘You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.’” – Hebrews 1:10-12

Jesus Is a Better Future to Invest In

In our continued journey to discover why Jesus is unequivocally better, we arrive at the profound realization that Jesus is the superior future to invest in. While angels are mere creatures, Jesus (even though He assumed our humanity) has been present as God from the beginning. He is the agent of creation itself. Everything in the created world is gradually moving toward decay and nothingness, but Jesus, with no origin and no conclusion, remains eternally constant. He is the bedrock on which our hope and future are securely built.

In this fallen world, we may diligently build up earthly accounts such as retirement funds, legacies, and achievements. However, here’s a stark truth: all of these investments will ultimately deteriorate, much like an old garment that will be rolled up and cast aside. Earthly investments, when viewed through the lens of eternity, are as perishable as withering flowers. They can only depreciate in value.

Eternity vs. Temporary Gain

When it comes to investments, a fundamental rule is that it’s not the quick returns that matter; it’s the returns that carry us through to the very end. From God’s perspective, our earthly investments, such as financial portfolios and legacies, are like child’s play. They are akin to playing with monopoly money. The only investment with true and enduring value is the one we make for eternity.

Parents, you invest a ton in your kids. You give them so much. The only investment you make in their lives that will matter is the eternal investment. The way that we invest eternally is by depositing Christ. We can’t make our kids love Jesus, but we also can’t make our kids good at soccer but we sure do try hard at it. We can’t make our kids love the things of God, but we also can’t make our kids get good grades but we sure do try hard at it. But thinking about our parenting is just one application of hundreds that we could make. We all have to consider what kind of investment we are making.

Is Our Pursuit Aligned with the Eternal Future with Jesus?

We need to earnestly ask ourselves: Is the future we’re tirelessly pursuing, and the future we’re advocating for in the lives of others, surrendered to the eternal future with Jesus? God is providing us with a profound insight—every other investment will diminish and fail. But Jesus, with no beginning and no end, is a hope that can never falter. By investing our future in Him, we find the unwavering security our souls deeply crave. In a world of fleeting treasures, Jesus is the eternal wealth we should relentlessly seek. Our future with Him is an investment that yields a return beyond our ability to conceive.
