Grace and Gratitude - Psalm 118
"Gratitude arrises from the lived perception, evaluation and acceptance of all of life as grace - as an undeserved and unearned gift from the Father’s hand…" - Brennan Manning
It is a proven fact that thankfulness is good for us. But, what exactly are we giving thanks for ... or to?
We grow in gratitude as we see more and more of the grace of God. The only reason that we don't live in constant thankfulness is that we don't see the constant grace that God is pouring into our lives.
Like a person living life in need of glasses, we are too blind to the riches of God's grace. The purpose of Psalm 118 is that it would fix our vision, that it would remove the blinders so that we can actually see the depth, riches and abundance of God's grace.
The hope is that we would come to the place that we would see that ALL of life is grace and therefore thankfulness and gratitude would flow out of us.
"You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God; I will extol you.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!"
(Psalm 118:28-29 ESV)
