Yesterday, we completed our journey through the book of Esther. The Book of Esther begins with a feast and ends with a feast. It begins with a self-indulgent feast of sin and ends with a God-glorifying feast of generosity. We considered how Jesus took the cup of wrath reserved for sinners so that sinners might enjoy the cup of salvation with God forever.
The end of Esther portrays the end of the world for God’s people as they are given relief from their enemies, called to rejoice and celebrate, and experience a great reversal. How should it change our lives knowing what the end will bring?
Some say that life isn’t about the destination. But in life, our destination always greatly affects our journey. So Esther teaches us that if the destination is life with God and the power that will get us to that destination is the providence of God, then we should live with courageous hope as we risk it all for the glory of God. If we have been promised everything, what do we have to lose?
