With A Mighty Triumph! by Rhett P. Dodson

“The resurrection was, and is, the great vindication of Christ’s work. To the naked eye, Jesus merely died like every other crucified criminal. The resurrection, however, serves to attest that his death for our sins was successful! The resurrection is God’s seal of approval for the gospel. By the resurrection, Jesus triumphed over death and the powers of sin and hell. He fell under the power of death for a time only to defeat it at last! One of the greatest theological works to come out of the Puritan era is John Owen’s treatise on the atonement. Its title, The Death of Death in the Death of Christ, gets to the heart of Easter. Jesus’ death meant the death of death. The resurrection is the assurance of that victory and the source of great joy. We celebrate Easter because death has died, and we know death has died because Jesus lives!”

Reflection:

The resurrection of Jesus gives so much hope. In it we see that God accepted the offering of Jesus in the place of our sins. When Jesus arose, it was a demonstration that all those found in Christ are justified. Jesus’ vindication was the certainty of our justification. And the resurrection means that death is dead. If Jesus is risen, then we will rise with Him. Hallelujah!
